Right now, as I am working on my annotated bibliography, (will be posted by Friday) I am getting so incredibly frustrated. I went to see Michael Moss, author of Salt, Sugar, Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us, November of my junior year. He did research for 4 years about the behind the scenes of the food industry and it is so horrible. If you want to learn more about what he says, I will be posting some videos he has spoken in in my annotated bibliography. For a while, I haven't thought about what I learned from him and now remembering everything is making me frustrated again. Everything is revolved around money. People's health is going to waste because the companies want to make as much money as possible. They are making their foods addictive and unhealthy because they know that is what is gonna sell, but it is horrible. That is why obesity is such an issue. That and a combination of a lack of education and understanding of nutrition. Even if you attempt to eat healthy there is never escaping unhealthy food because even the fruits and vegetables available to us are sprayed with chemicals or have somethings wrong with them, and we are not even safe from that. It makes me feel so hopeless because it is like, what is even going to change? People are always gonna be greedy for money and have a lack of conscience or empathy for what they are doing to people. That is what so many industries do. They don't care what they are doing to the human population, as long as they are making money. My english teacher told my class how there was an article that came out talking about how the people in silicon valley will not let their kids have cellphones because they know how horrible they are. If that does not speak truths, just wow. I am going to do more research to see what people can do to be as healthy as possible considering the world we live in. With the resources available, what is possible and attainable? Thank you for listening to me rant. I have thought these things for a while, but never have an opportunity to put my thoughts out there. I am curious to see other people's perspectives, so please message me (link on my home page). Our conversation might even spark a new path in my project so please feel free.
